Baby Beauties - Crochet Baby Hat Pattern


Helmet

Materials:
Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 2 skeins (3/4 oz skeins) of Green and 1 skein White or J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro Sheen

Crochet Hook - Plastic #2

1 small button

Side (Make 2)

Starting at center with Green, ch 4.

Rnd 1: 14 dc in 4th ch from hook. Sl st in top of starting chain.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join as before.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, yarn over hook, insert hook from right side of work between starting chain and the following dc and bring it out from back of work between the first 2 dc,  yarn over hook and draw loop though, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice (a raised dc made over the bar of the first dc), *2 dc in next dc, make a raised dc over next dc. Repeat from* around, ending with 2 dc in last dc. Join.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, *dc in next dc, make a raised dc over bar of next raised dc as before, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat  from * around. Join.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, make a raised dc over next raised dc, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before drawing a loop of White through the last 2 loops. Drop Green.

Rnd 6: With White, sc in back loop of each st around. Join and turn.

Rnd 7-8: Ch 1, and sc in back loop of each st around. Join and turn. Break off White at end of 8th rnd.

Rnd 9: Pick up Green, *sc in back loop of next 3 sts, 2 sc in back loop of next st. Repeat from *around. Join and break off.

Hereafter work is done in rows.

Row 1: Turn, attach Green to back loop 9th sc following joining, sc in same place, sc in back loop of each sc across to within 8 sc from joining. Ch 1, turn.
Always work in back loop of each sc unless otherwise specified.

Row 2: Work off next 2 sc as l sc, sc in each sc across working off last 2 sc as l sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3-8- Repeat 2nd row.

Row 9: Sc in each sc across. Now continue to work sc along lower edge of Side. Break off.

Center (Make 2)

With White work as for Side until first rnd is completed. Break off.

Sew a White Center over first rnd of each Side of cap. Place side pieces with wrong sides facing and working over both thicknesses through back loops of last row of each piece make sc in each sc, thus joining the two side pieces.

Front Band...With White, ch 14.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in back loop of each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until 26 rows are completed. Break off.
 
Sew on long side of band to one edge of cap between the two circular pieces (this is front edge). Turn band up and sew sides of band in place.

Strap

With Green make a chain 6 inches long.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3-5: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Insert hook in end st of each row and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made). Ch 5, sl st in tip of cluster. Break off.

Sew Strap and button in place.
